I have a 9n which I've been using for general up-keep on my small hobbie ranch. I would really like to have some type of small trailer which I could hitch up and use for carying rocks, fencing materials, or the neighborhood kids,(on hayrides). I don't care if it has a tilt bed because I don't have live hydraulics on my tractor. I seem to remember seeing some old JD trailers of the same vintage. Does anyone know where I can get one of these. Or can I make one myself out of old car-parts etc? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks .

Thanks for all of the quick responses.... As for the tractor, I was thinking of one which had 4 wheels, (an axle in front and an axle in the rear) and the front axle which swivels for turning. I guess what I'm describing is a hay wagon. Anyway, does anyone know where I can get one of these? Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for being patient with me.

Roger.

Roger, have you considered the maneuverability of the 2-wheel vs. the 4-wheel trailers? 2-wheelers can be used in tight spaces, and are very easy to maneuver. Sometimes the only way out is back, easy to do with the 2-wheeler, very difficult if not impossible with the 4-wheelers ("...give me 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around...").

My .02 cents,

John A

You can learn to back a wagon (4 wheels), and we did on the farm.(After many tries as a kid) Had to. These wagons are widely available in farm country for $200-$500 with flat bed for hay.You can learn to back them in a less than hour of thinking and practice. But you are right, a trailer (2 wheels or tandem) is much handier and maybe more versatile. I'd buy a nice little 2-wheeler that could be pulled by both light truck or car and tractor. Another choice is a carry-all frame that hooks to the three-point. These are less than $100 factory made here in Iowa and you add your own lumber to make a floor. Great for hauling fencing tools, rocks, landscaping, and sacks of anything. and very manueverable on the back of N. Mike

I have several small trailers. One is a converted truck bed painted Camo so it dose not show up sitting in the yard and another flat bed I got for free and and restored with new decking, paint and hubs. The red one I use for watering stock in remote areas and fire protection. They work great towed behind the tractor for use on the place. Just be sure you load them right because the lift is designed for lifting only and if your load shifts to the rear the lift arms will go up and tip the trailer. Mark H.

From time to time, I see small utility trailers be offered for sale, sitt'n in people's front yards.

Sometimes makeing one will be more expensive for ya, than finding one like RON's that is already made and proven-out.

Maybe a used trailer than can also be pulled by a car might do, also.

Paint it JOHN DEERE green and put some "decals" on it and guess what? Vintage, enough.
If you are use'n rattle cans to paint it, and you think your are out of paint, turn the can upside down, put a wrag over the can and punch a hole in the can with a nail. Allow the propellent to escape and drain the remaining paint into a container. CHECK THE RATTLER for the ball bearing inside the can. Might be industrial glass marble. :}))))))

Roger, I'm not sure what vintage or style you are looking for but here's one that I made out of an older ford ranger bed, with the frame cut at the front of the bed, it's got perfect balance. Later

Hey Ron/PA....are you sure you never lived in Jacksonville NC at one point in time? Your tractor shelter looks almost identical to one that my granddad built...right down to our 2N and Farmall 140 on opposite sides of the shed! I did a double take when i saw your pic....Small world after all, huh? :-)

As for trailers, we bought a regular automotive trailer used for hauling 4-wheelers and such. Works great, and the wide tires get good floatation.
