I have a lot of play between the inner lever and the housing. The FO-4 manual says to install a shim to remove excess clearance. Anybody know where to find this or better yet suggest an alternative that I can run over to the hardware store and get?

Thanks.

Mine had play also and as a result it altered the throttle control. I used a small piece of copper wire for the shim. Thick enough to do the job and to maintain the shape I put it in after I wrapped it around the pivot point. I hope you enjor your tour of the museum. I wouldn't mine seeing it myself. I think I saw it in a book I bought earlier this year.

Bend it around and cut it off it will be a little long if you don't. I keep 2 or 3 sets of feelers around all the time.

Pat,
I use feeler gauges whenever I need shims for something like that. I had to use .007 on my gov lever.

Thanks Jim. After I thought about this for awhile I remembered something I read about a guy named Palmer Fossum. Palmer lives in Northfield about 90 miles from me and rebuilds these. I tracked him down today and his cost to do a total rebuild was 10.00 more than the parts kit I bought from CT stores. I'm sending him my governor and returning the rebuild kit! Plus when I go pick it up I get to tour through his museum and check out his 1939 9N sn 357!
