Well if anyone remembers my story of the tractor that discentagated just after delivery,(some sayed it was the moldavion death tractor curse)You'll be gald to hear the curse has been lifted with an infusion of cash and TLC.Shes runnin'like song.I got lucky yesterday, fixed 3 hydro leaks just by tightening loss bolts. One was a major one at the brake backing plate,5 of the 6 bolts were very loss.Anyway I have a question for the panel of experts,I have a lower lift arm stud that wont tighten up,the nut and washer inside wont grab,I guess because there swimin' in gear lub.Anybody know a trick to tighten one up.Other than removing the axle housing that is.

I assume that you haven't taken one of the trumpets off yet and you are just working from the outside. The studs have castle nuts on them with cotter pins to keep the nut from working it's way off and getting caught in the ring/pinion. Barring taking the trumpet off to get inside, (left one), I'm not sure there is an "exterior fix". Have no fear however, if there is we'll get someone to offer it up.

If you do take the trumpet off, the bright side is that you will have access to the rear case and it will allow you to clean out whatever gunk has accumulated in there. I found metal shavings and bad bearings in mine. All cleaned up with new bearings now. Life is good.

Good luck

Ha Bob, Thanks for the info,I was afraid that was the case.I'd rather not pull the trumpet, for the time being I'll just live with the leak,it's pretty small. It's nice to know the nut won't fall off inside the dif.I believe this stud became loose in an atempt to remove the lower lift arm, probably years ago from the looks of it.

Just remeber that every time that lift arm shakes it is screwing up the housing a little bit at a time. lol

MAke sure that the assembly is tight..it can "wallow out" and become a worse project. I'd recommend "Biting The Bullet" and fixing it now. Otherwise it may be un-repairable without much trouble. Of course, that depends on how much you use it. It's your tractor...OK??
