Hi All,

Just picked up a sweet 8N, fresh paint, new rings, bearings, great hyraulics, purrs like a kitten. Have only mowed once with it for a couple of hours. Maybe this winter I will start rebuilding my 9N that barely runs and needs lots of TLC.

My question. Just for giggles, I would like to put an hour meter on the 8N, just to keep track. Has anyone done this and just how difficult would it be?

My apologies if I am overlooking the obvious!

Odie

I'm guessing that you have an early 8n.. that had no proofmeter.

I guess you coul always add a proofmeter.. I believe the new drive section for the governer is available. Don't know how much work you want to put into it though...
As others said.. a simple electric one may be easier.. Many pieces of heavy equipment have them wired up so that when the ignition key is on, the meter runs... others sense from a plug wire or other sensor, etc.

I have a 2N that is 12v and I picked up an hour meter from Wickes Aircraft Supply (I believe), for $20 or so. I will be looking for a good 6v hour meter, as my other 2N will stay 6v.

I put an hour meter on my 2N. The meter is made by Sendec and uses a single wire lead wrapped around a sparkplug wire. Whne the wire senses electricity going thru the wire, the hour meter runs.

113.2 hour later and it is still working well

Odie, I plan on doing the samething to my "49" 8N. To your left under Research & Info click on Articles & you will see Adding a Hourmeter. Hope this helps. Jim
