I DO NOT GET IT. I HAVE CALLED A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THE PHONE ABOUT THEIR 8N'S. I ASK ALL THE RIGHT QUESTIONS AND WHEN YOU ARRIVE THE TRACTOR IS WARM, PAINT IS FRESH FROM CAN, OIL IS MILKY OR DOES NOT MEASURE ON DIPSTICK, LEAKS OIL, AND NOT TO MENTION THE OTHER PROBLEMS YOU FIND THAT THE PERSON ON THE PHONE TOLD THAT WAS NOT THERE. I DO NOT GET IT??? WHY LIE WHEN YOU KNOW I THE PERSON BUYING THE TRACTOR CAN SEE THE PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.

DOES ANY BODY KNOW WHY?????

I KNOW IT IS IN OUR NATURE TO LIE AND WE ALL DO IT FROM TIME TO TIME WHETHER IT IS A LITTLE WHILE LIE OR A FULL OUT AND OUT LIE. HOWEVER, IT STILL DOES NOT MAKE IT RIGHT. I AGREE WITH THE COMMENTS POSTED AND LET THE BUYER BEWARE. I SOME TIMES THINK PEOPLE LIE BECAUSE IT IS EASIER TO LIE THAN TELL THE PERSON THE TRUTH.

ALL I WANT IS A GOOD LITTLE 8N OR MF 35 (SORRY). I REALIZE THE NEWEST ONE IS STILL 50 YEARS OLD AND I CAN NOT EXPECT PERFECTION.I WOULD LIKE THE RESPECT OF TELLING ME THE TRUTH.

To throw my 2 cents. Most have said it better, but: Ethics have gone out the window. Look at some of our national leaders. (I won't say which ones, but the choice is vast). Look at merchants, and, in general, look at the population. Ethics are simply not taught either at home or school, and have become lost.

One of the biggest thing I see at work is people don't want to come to work. Sick leave has now become an entitlement-even if the employee is not sick, they feel they have sick time coming so they take. It. When they run out, they have FMLA, so they can take leave without pay. Even pay is not an incentive.

Only way to fix this mess, is at home, with parents, one by one to set the best example possible. Zig Ziglar, a motivational speaker said it so it becomes real: "How can you teach your children morals and ethics when you have a radar detector to beat the speed limit and cheat on your taxes?" (Paraphrased from memory). The meaning is clear, however.

Nice discussion fellows; which reminds me of a tale I was told many years ago. Went something like this:

A fellow asked someone if he would believe a liar, and that person said NO ! He would not believe a liar !

The fellow said, "if two randomly selected people were asked the question if they ever told a lie in their entire life, and the first replied no and the second said yes, which one would he believe?"

The answer was the second man that said he had told a lie in his life, because most people do lie now and then.

The fellow then asked, "Why would anyone believe an admitted liar????"

Just a little humor to bright your day. Have a good one!

I just sold an 8N with a cracked block. I made no bones about the condition of the machine. So honest people are out there. However the rule of life is buyer beware. The only questions I ask is "What work have you done on it?" Anything else is subjective. I know what to look for and I make my own assessment. The only thing I ask is that the engine is cold when I get there.

Why people lie is a tough one.

There are only three things in life that would permit a lie. To save a persons life, To save a womens honour, To sell something. Beware of the last one, you will encounter more lies during a private sale than you will from an experienced used car salesman. There is generaly not much you can do when a private deal goes bad, but there is a lot you can do when you buy from a business depending on the legislation in your state or province. BC Mike C

Lying is as natural as breathing..But that doesn't make it right.

Ask you kid if He/She took the cookie out of the cookie jar..With Crumbs on there mouth they say Not Me...

Even in the Very Beginning God told Adam and Eve GEN 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. The Devil said: "GEN 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:" ( SOMEBODY LIED)

When a Police man pulls people over for speeding and asks " do you know how fast you were going?" Most say: 78 mph...in a 65 zone sir... NOT....

When you or someone walks up to a friend and he or she asks How you doing today.. Most of the time we say just fine... Even if your head is pounding. and your feet hurt and you have a back pain from raking leaves or cleaning out the barn.

So men lie and Lying is a Sin. So it's not a Lying problem it's a Sin problem.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

It's very hard to Respect a Liar.

Life would be grand if WE would tell the truth..All the Time.

Respectfully
J52J/Jess

YEP???? that's a strange signature? Oh it's not a signature, I seeeee! You post but don't sign, you slander someone but don't have the balls to put your name behind it? You sound like a yellow dog coward that can't deal with someone that knows of what they speak. I would rather deal with someone like Dell that has little patience with folks, and know that his advice is good, than to deal with you and wonder where you get your info!
Somedays it is better to remain silent, and let the world THINK you a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt!
Get a spine

They are trying to get more than its worth, P. T . Barnum once said there is a sucker born every minute, take it from there . I think there is also another saying about buyer beware. Once you shell out the bucks its your puppy . I have this bridge in New York I would like to sell .( you get my drift ) .

It comes from a society that encourages cheating and lying and stealing...a direct result of 75 years or schools teaching situational ethics and the failure of society to value morality as taught by the Bible.

Well said Bob. I fought that stuff for five years on our local school board, got tossed out by the voters at the end of my term because I was not doing what the teachers wanted! The inmates run the asylum. Also the government and some of our leaders in high office have no morals either especially a past administration in the Oval Office.

I am a teacher, and i know for a fact that we do not run the school...we have to do what the superintendant and board wants...we also have to cover state standards...the problem with schools
is 1) not enough money 2) people ( government officials, board members etc) that do not have a clue to how education is today...it is not like they were in school 20 to 30 years ago..they are making the rules and guidelines based on a different era...3)parents...most of the time both parents work hoping to help their kids, however the the extra money is not worth the valuable time lost by not teaching and being with their children.attention, support and understanding is the most important things a child needs..not 45
video games and the other material things we often give to much of....indy

Well I see from your posts why you are no longer a teacher. You are far to qualified.
Anyone that thinks kids need far less "Stuff" and a lot more face time with loving caring correcting parents, has no place being a teacher.
Heaven forbid that future parents might learn that attitude from you.
Please return to teaching we need more with your attitude.
More money to fix systems that are broken because of the "money will fix everything" attitude of our officals is stupid.

So you're ateacher huh? And you don't run the schools? Ok tell me if you don't go and vote enmasse for higher budgets. The school board elections are controlled by the teachers, cafeteria workers, Janitors and the Bus drivers.
How many times have you sent messages home with your students telling their parents to vote for the new budget? How many ex or current teachers sit on your school board? The NEA is the most powerful gang of thugs in government today . Regards. Rich

I am not a teacher. I am a former coach with endorsements to teach, but chose to pursue a career in another field. I am dead set against the liberal agenda being mandated in our schools and the federal mandates that are unfunded.

Hmmmm, I have secondary education endorsement, and coaching. I was a football coach for ten years. My wife is a librarian. Just because I don't teach or coach now (my choice) does not mean that I have not walked in your shoes. Our particular district is not unique.

I tried for the school board, The opposition put out the word that if I got elected, The kids would be on split sessions, be walking to school,
and eating beans everyday in the cafeteria. I lost, you're correct, the teachers run the asylum. This is the biggest tax dollar drain in your local budget, yet they can keep the myth and lies going that education is underfunded, which it is NOT! There are no morals where tax dollars are concerned. And our leadership has been rotten to the core going back to Calvin Coolidge, America's last "Good" president. St Franklin was a world class momumental liar, Truman's lies are more in his actions than in his statements. Eisenhower told us the U2s were weather recon planes along with the RB 47s that were always being shot down over Soviet territory. Kennedy lied badly to the men who went ashore at the bay of pigs. LBJ. If you were alive then, you know. Nixon, Fohgedaboudit! Ford,Who knows? Jimmy"I'll never lie to you" Carter. Played the peanut farmer while sitting on the board of the Tri Lateral Commision. Reagan, That depends one which side you're on if he lied or not.he was one on my favorites. Bush I and BushII are both liars, Why you ask. They took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution and have violated it almost daily. And the never to be forgotten "No New Taxes". But the Patriot act, and the Homeland security laws are real Constitution busters. Clinton, You knew he was lying because his lips were moving. Yup Our so called leadership stinks and has stunk for decades. Regards, Rich Sic Semper Tyrannis

I don't know Bob, sometimes, just sometimes, people just don't know any better, they truely do think and feel what they are saying when selling is the truth, in there minds , All tractors that are older than them leak alittle oil, have alittle "Milk' in the oil. I mean this is a tractor with a 6 volt battery???, it's old so that's as good as it gets?

but like I said "just a few ", the rest are all a bunch of crooks ! LOl

He was telling people that the engine had been overhauled last year. Needless to say, I dont ever invite him over to my house.

I've encountered the same thing with tractors- but it's even worse when looking at used cars! It's so bad that I can't stand the prospect of looking for used vehicles anymore! I know, whenever I call up about a tractor or a car or whatever, why even bother asking, as the person will be lying?! Why even bother going to look? I AM SO SICK OF IT!

And contrast this with the fact that I sold used cars briefly- and I was an honest used-car salesman (that's why it was brief!).....and people would come in, and I'd tell them the truth, and they didn't want to hear it!

I'd tell them that the hot red Camaro is rather well worn, and needs a lot of TLC, but that was the car they'd buy! I'd tell them the truth about the cars, but they'd listen to the other guy who worked there, who was lying out of both sides of his face! (even if I had no morality, I would've been embarassed to say the things this jerk said, because i'd figure no one would be stupid enough to believe it- but I was wrong- they believe it, and they want to believe it!)

And this lying is universal! Makes me sick!

The sad part is that dishonest people like your car salesman colleague do not need to risk eternal damnation for lying. I saw the other side of it when I worked in a repair shop. Customers would call us and ask our opinion on certain cars. Customer: "What do you think of Fiats?" Me: "Augh! worst car ever built! Do not, under any circumstances, buy this car! If you do, we will not work on it!" But if they like the way the car looks, and it didn't leave them stranded on the test drive, it was inevitable... 2 weeks later they would call; "I know you said not to buy the Fiat, but I did, and now its_____ _ so could you...? We did a service called a used car check. One day a customer brought in a Volvo diesel wagon to check out. The compression was low across all 5 cylinders. About an hour later the owner called and offered the shop manager a bribe to give the car a clean bill of health. We told the customer about the problem and the owners dishonesty. Guess what! He bought the car! Why lie?

... these are the same good citizens who, when they're stoppped for speeding or DUI plead, "NOT GUILTY!!!!!" I am innocent!! What ever might be wrong is YOUR fault, NOT MINE!!!

They grew up getting away with that line on Ma or Dad and never got to the point of being responsible for themselves.

These people sue when they spill hot coffee on themselves, they sue when they crawl under your fence and get hurt on your land, they sue when they borrow your tractor and hurt themselves... surely this must be YOUR fault. go figure.
