Just found the site - Great info!
I have a noticable leak around both lower link supports on my 2N. The external nuts seem tight and the shafts are tight.

I was told I might fix this through the PTO, but seems more space through the hydraulic cover assy.

Can this be done without taking off the rear axle housings? Is this a job for the Ford house?

I just pulled both trumpets last night, I was trying to remove the lower arms and the one pin spun. After pulling the trumpets it looks like someone has been in here before and the cotter pin did not engage the castle nut correct and allowed the nut to back off a turn or 2. Just enough to make it need to come apart.
I'm replaceing axel seals while apart
Good luck

Bob,
You will have to remove the left axle trumpet. You will be able to get to the left one right then. Then pull the differential carrier to get to the right side. The carrier will almost fall right out so be careful. Make sure the tractor is blocked up so it won't tip over to the right when the left axle trumpet is taken off. Seal them with you favorite sealant(except silicone). Get a new trumpet gasket. Soak it in warm water for 10 sec before you put it on or it will tear(for some unknown reason they are to small in diameter dry).
Get yourself a FO-4 shop manual available from sponsors of this site(look at top left under Market place) $29 cheap, and other fine tractor part retailers. Lots of good info in them. If you are a little mechanically inclined you can do most of what needs to be done to these old tractors. Plus don't forget, there are many a fine folk here to help.

Jim

Bob, Everything Jim says is correct...I too had a leak from my right link pin and reluctantly had to remove the left trumpet to get to the right side. The inner castle nut must be torqued to 150# and a new cotter pin installed. The trick in installing is to have an engine leveler on your shop crane to line up the splines of the left axle with the pinion. Good luck!
