I have a line on an 8 foot York brand Rock Rake. It is an older one, but in good shape and the teeth are worn down about 2" or less from new.

He wants 700.00 for it.

Opinions needed.

Acquire? or go new with another brand in the same price range...or git a new one in a better brand or manufacturer priced at 1300.00 like the Landpride that a local tractor dealer sells.

? Thoughts?

I'll take all the 8' YORK rakes for $400.00 w/wo wheels that I can get. Even a few 7 footers.

Tom,
The price sounds about right for an 8 footer, except yours sounds very worn. Does it have wheels?
For reference my 5 footer cost $275 (used) at Keats.
Check the Market Bulletin or place an ad.

yeah, wheels on it. is 2" wear enough to impede performance? and cause me to replace the rake teeth?? if that's the case, I might as well acquire a new one... ??

Tom..... ...my rule of thumb for GOOD USED tractor implements is 1/2 price of new. $700 is way too much for that much wear, its almost worn out. $500 is more realistic value. Implement prices are subject to negoation. Offer him $400 and your business card with your written offer and tell him to call you if he changes his mind. UNLESS you just "gottahavitts"..... ...Dell

Dell,

good advice. Can't go wrong with new just smarts in the wallet at first. I don't have the gottahavits just yet with a rock rake...

Yeah, I agree, 400 is a good start. And in a awhile I know I will need to replace those tines and I'm not convinced that I have the time for that.

But, if it was THE rare and long sought after and only one made of 's kind in that color York Rake maybe. But who will really care? And I don't think rock rakes are in the collectible category just yet.
