finally got my engine running.got timing and valves adjusted and sounds pretty good.thanks for every ones help and if it wasnt for this fourm,i would still be beating my head aganist the wall and muttering to my self. i still have this one problem though.my timing cover got hot and i pulled it and found that the camshaft thrust spring is rubbing aganist it.this shouldnt be happening, right? so what do i do to correct it? how much play should there be between thrust spring and timing cover? thanks in advance.

Setting up the camshaft end play is described in the FO-4 manual. I think it calls for .004" on a side mount engine. For these engines, the timing cover gasket sets the end play. Your FNH dealer has timing gaskets available in various thicknesses.

The TISCO overhaul gasket set has two timing cover gaskets of about the same thickness. With just one gasket, and a timing cover in nearly new condition, the end play is near zero. If you stack up two gaskets, the end play comes out about right.

I don't know for front mounts...
