Greetings,

My neighbor just bought a '52 8N in great shape for restoration. It has a grease gun holder on the left fender and came with the gun.

Question is... what color was the gun when new?

Many thanks for this and other answers I've gotten here, even to questions I hadn't thought to ask.

Zanes, grease gun. Does not look to have any color on it. You have to look real close to see it is marked Dearborn.

Yes again that is the original 8N grease gun circa 1950. I have one just like it that we bought for our new 1950 8N. Ours came with the holder for fender mounting but we never installed it.

Boy, i'd give about anything (if i had some spare anything laying around, that is) to have one of those things! A truly rare find, even more so than an original unaltered ford screwdriver....wow

I have been around Ford tractors off and on for 50-plus years. These grease gun holders were fairly common on Fords, Fergusons and Ford-Fergusons (2N and 9N) when I was a kid and teenager. The grease guns were of many different brands either painted a dark color (black or blue, as I vaguely remember) when new OR they were bright metal (almost like chrome) if they were a premium, high-quality grease gun. Zane found one that said "Ford" and that is the first I ever heard of a Ford tractor grease gun. He did not state the color. Most all of our grease guns had a brownish coating of dried stain from the grease that got on our hands from loading the gun with fresh grease and from wiping excess from machines we were lubricating. You will see similar guns on farms today, and at antique machinery shows. Mike-Iowa
