Hyd. pump is out--what to check now?

My '44 2N had its lift stuck in the up position, so I checked to see if the control lever fork, or valve were binding/non-operative--they're fine. I then pulled the pto and pump to see if any obvious problems could be found--don't see anything yet. Now that I've got the pump out, what should I be looking for to ensure that I don't experience a stuck lift again? Do I need to take the pump apart and check the internals? Is there a way to determine whether the relief valve is operational?
Thanks
Casey

Gotta questions why you think the pump is causing the lift to be stuck in the up position, it only powers up, gravity takes it down.

In as much as you have checked the control valve and it is not stuck, it seems like the problem has to be something binding in the lift cylinder/piston or the lift arms/shaft.

I just don't see how an inoperative pump would cause the lift to stick in the up position.

Can anybody else add any thoughts to this?

take off valve and clean it real good hook it up to your compressor and spray windex on the other end. if there are bubbles replace it, if not its in working order.
