Hey at least it is a ford tractor.
Guys, I got a 1700 the other day, and when the son used it to cross the creek, he kicked down the differential lock. Now it seems it won't release.
Any quick fixes?

Usually by turning left and right the differential will release. If the shaft that enters the housing is rusted up and seized though it won't come out until that shaft is freed.

Lots of penetrant and an air chisel to vibrate it might free it up. Not a sharp chisel but a blunt bit of some sort.

I've also heard that driving a figure 8, or even alternate breaking ( at low speeds! ) can free up a stuck diff lock.
