Well fellers,I finally got time to remove the front axle mount from the engine and drive the axle pin out.I used a 6" piece of 1 1/2"scdl.40 iron pipe and 3 licks of the sledge to set her free.I got a lot of wear on both pin and bushing, got new ones on the way. Here's my question, how much end play should here be when reassembled. All the spacers seam to be OK and I'd say there's about 3/16"of end play.I know there needs to be some because of the radius rods pulling the axle closer to the engine when the axle pivits, but FO-4 doesn't say how much is required. Also, should I grease the pin/bushing or leave it dry.

Yes you are correct when you stated that some movement is required because of the radius rods changing geometry when the front axle pivots. 3/16" is not excessive, I leave 1/8" on mine. Never fill the space completely, there must be room for movement.

NO GREASE, EVER . . . understand? Grease will attract the dirt and turn it into grinding compound and grind out your brand new front axle pin. As for fore/aft endplay, your front axle radius rods actually determine that and that is determined by axle width (in 2" increments). I'd just use what ever "shims" (spacers) were previously installed..... .Dell

What if you've already been dumb enough to put grease here? (I think I know the answer but don't want to think about it.)

I orderd some extra spacers when I did mine and took out most of the end play. Just add shims untill you can not add any more and still have some free play.
