I have the chance to get a 1939 ford 9n with an aluminum grill and hood wich is rare. They want $1000 dollars but the tractor is in horrible condition. it is rare but is it worth it. any info on things to look for and should I buy it.

I would consider giving you $1500 for it provided the hood, the alum grill, are not damaged and good ser. # , complete tractor. I have one alum hood now, always room for two! email me with your phone # and I will call, glad to give info. I have. BURT

I would agree with Carl. Judging by how much new restoration quality hoods and grills go for, i'd say that the hood and grill alone are worth about $700, that is, if they are not horribly bent and dinged up and the grill is not broken in 8 places like most of the alum. ones are. Just getting a running N for $1000 is a good buy, even more so if it has those aluminum parts. I would get it and restore it to it's former glory...no jerry-rigging or second class stuff. Give it the restoration it deserves

You said it is in horrible condition.
Does that go for the hood and grill too?
Or are they in good or repairable condition?
Next I would want to know the serial number.
Does it still have the original block?
And is the block repairable?
I would jump on it if these three things are good.
and would strongly consider it if just the serial number or hood is good.

Carl

BUY it. Then ask the questions. I would buy it, but do check serial number on block to see if motor was switched out. Long list of items unique to the 9N. The Ford N Series Originality Guide will help you a lot.
