I have changed my oil and filter regularly. I always drain the oil, pull the filter and drain the oil out of the filter can. When I get 5 quarts back in the stick shows full. The manual says 6. What does everyone else get?

TIA

Ron

It's 6 quarts when you change the filter & drain and clean the filter holder. Good Luck. Ron

If the stick shows full should I go ahead and put the extra quart in?

Thanks

Ron

Are you sure you have the correct dipstick?

Take the top back off the filter cannister and pour about half the 6th quart in there...Then start the motor and get it up to temp...Shut it off and let it sit for an hour and THEN check your oil level on the stick...

No, Don't over fill.
You probally have a quart of sludge in the oil pan.
You could try to flush it out but it would be best to drop the oil pan.

When I took mine off there was probably at least 1/2" in the bottom of the pan.

Carl.Interesting and true comment you made. Apparantly I don't have much sludge in the engine, because when changing oil, I put in 6 quarts and after running it, it shows the oil level at the full mark. Overhauled it at least 25 years ago and always use detergent oil. Maybe the detergent oil is doing it's job,Eh. Ron
