Just been using the heck out of my 841 and just about finished the job when I tried start her she just goes "click". The click is coming from the starter relay.....so I replaced the battery which I thought was beginning to get a little low anyway. New battery didn't help..... so I replaced the starter relay. Now I don't even get a click. Is my voltage regulator or starter fried? She deserves a break so I don't have to hurry to fix her. But she's happier when shes runnin.

Thanks RICK/GA

I am not Dell but before You replace too many of the bad parts that aren't clean the contacts and parts You have. Also be sure to check to make sure that the starter drive is not hanging in. Starter motor can't turn with a pre-existing load. The 172ci engine has a history of wearing starter ring gears hence starters will often find a spot for the drive to catch on. All that is necessary to do to see is loosen the starter bolts, move the starter and see if the drive returns. Mine will do this once a year or so but not worth splitting the tractor for yet.

Rick..... ...original starter relay goes "click", replaced the battery....no help....replaced the starter relay.....NOW it doesn't even click.

Then you wonder if voltage regulator is reason new starter relay does't click. Think about that. Didn't you just replace your battery?

Then you wonder if starter is reason new starter relay doesn't click. Think about that. The relay gotta click to make the starter go roundy-round, not the other way around.

Think about what is common between a new battery and a new starter relay. Thats right, the big thick as your thumb, battery cable. They can be BAD underneath the insulation or underneath the moulded connectors. I'd replace it.

Remember the 6 volt mantra: "Keep'em clean, bright, and tight" and don't be fer usin' enny of them thar wimpy battery cables, use 'arry chested 1-ought (thick as yer thumb) battery cables..... .....Dell

Too true Dell!! I just spent an hour of my life with my trusty voltage meter, and scratching my head wondering what the devil was wrong with my snapper lawnmower. Turned out to be the battery cables. It's crazy how the can go bad, but they do, and it'll confuse the heck outta you until you figure it out!---Rob
