Just bought 49 8n. It has been converted to 12 volt, battery goes dead when not running. It does not have the delco alt. recommended. It is a delco, 2k11 is what is stamped on it. It has a little box on top with four wires going to it. It has a plug with R and F stamped on the alt. Will my alt. work if I hook it up like the wiring diagrams on this site and do away with the little box? also what exactly is a marker lamp?

8NFG..... ..marker lamp is any self contained trailer or truck body clearance marker lamp with 2-wires already built in for eazy connecting.

The commonally used inexpensive 12 volt Delco 10-SI alternator has BUILT-IN voltage regulator. Sounds like your little square box is an external voltage regulator and I KNOW NOTHING about it.

If'n yer haffin' problems keeping your battery charged, I wouldn't mucka round with whatever alternator thats theres, I'd bite the bullet and get the common Delco 10-SI and then wire it up like the wiring diagrams. At least you'd know it was done right.

'Course you could always take your current alternator with the little box on it, into any autoparts store and get a "free" alternator test..... ....respectfully, Dell
