I think Dell has a good idea. Ask your freind to let you use his tiller. Only difference is I would ask him if you could put in on your 8n and try the drive around method. See how it does for you. no harm right?

I have a 1948 8N. Would a new 3pto tiller from the local Tractor Supply (a hardware store), function on my tractor. It does run real well.

BTW, I am from Danville, Illinois.

Thanks, Edward

PAT..... .every spring, the N-Board gets the same rototiller questions and the answers still the same. The N-Tractor is NOT a rototiller machine because it is too high ground speed for rototillering, its a 14" 2-bottom plowin' fool. Its NOT a horsepower thing, because your N-Tractor has about 25 hp, its a ground speed thing. The N-Tractor was designed for 14" 2-bottom plow. This is the most common 3-point cat-1 size plow, new or used.

Unfortunately, even the popular dealer installed "Sherman Aux Tranny" doesn't have slow enuff tranny gears for rototillering. Yes, there is an rare and fragle "Howard" aux tranny that IF you can find one, will slow down the groundspeed and keep the PTO speed high.

Back in the early 70's, I used to see N-Tractors pulling a 3-point lift mounted rototiller with its OWN AUX ENGINE thru the grape vinyards of central Calif. Unfortunately, I don't remember anything else about it.

But if you think you need to rototiller instead of plowing and discing, go rent a bigger tractor with rototiller and get it done. Unfortunately, the N-Tractor is NOT the tool for every job and even though your TSC store's rototiller will fit, it is NOT the tool for your N-Tractor..... ...respectfully, Dell
