Rear Tires dilema

The enevitable just happened. I blew a rear tire. The area around the valve stem was rusted through and the tube was poking out. I decided to pretend that it wasn't as bad as it looked. Sometimes it's not good to pretend. At any rate, I am faced with a decision. The tires themselves are good, and for the most part the rims look ok, just the area where the valve stem is located. I haven't removed the wheel/tire from the tractor yet. I would like to get the hole welded up and sandblast it and paint it and call it done, but.....
The other side has the same problem, and the center disks look different on the left side as they do the right. The one that blew almost looks like a one piece deal. The center disk is bolted to the rim, but it is a snug fit (no gap from the disk to the rim) and the bolts look like they were never meant to come off. Has anyone ever seen this? The other side looks like a piece of cake to take apart, once I have the tire dismounted. My long-winded question is: Can that wierd looking rim be taken apart, so I can take it to the welding shop, or do I have to buy new rims? If new rims are in order? Where do I find them and how much is a fair price? There is an advertiser on E-Bay that is selling (2) six-spline rim and tire combos for 475 bucks with free shipping....what's the best way to go? Any suggestions are helpful and appreciated! --Rob

I bought a set from the ebay guy, Tucker Tire.
He sent me a better set than advertised. 12 ply 11.4. Same price. I had asked him about getting the larger tires and he said he was out at the moment. Then he called to give me the shipping number and said he's got me some really good tires coming. (Message was on the answering machine)
Got them the next day.
I am well pleased. They are good tires and he is good to deal with.
I will buy from him again.

That Ebay offer sounds pretty good.. However, you may not need to spend that much at all. Do you have local dealers that regularly do tractor tires? To get going tomorrow, you could have the "blown" rim welded and patched, add a new tube, and get back to work. However, I suspect you are going to find a lot more rust inside the blown rim and, perhaps, lots of rust inside the other rim. If your tires are as goodas you say. Then I think I would recommend two new rims with two new tubes and the old tires. Cost will be around $100 ea. for rims, 25-35- ea for tubes and $50-$100 dismounting and mounting of tires. Hmmmm? Are we over $300 without new tires? About those rims: Wild guess--you have one old-style original "hat" rim that looks like it is almost one piece with the rim. Next guess-- your newer blown rim is a replacement style. The new one may be from 7-20 years old, but got badly rusted by calcium chloride. Mike-Iowa

Rob,
There are generally 2 types of rims-the original style and the newer loop style. The photo is of the original style. Both will work with whatever centers you have.
You could try to find another original rim like the one you have, cut and weld in new patches. The original rims seem to be getting scarce and are somewhat hard to come by.

You are probably talking about Tucker Tire on Ebay. I purchased some tire/rim sets from them a couple of years ago and was very pleased. I would highly recommend them if you plan to replace your tires/rims.
