attaching swivel caster wheels , like the ones
on the front of a dixie chopper or exmark mower,
to the front of a bushhog to keep from scalping pasture. letting the hog ,in affect, ride on the ground like a finish mower.

Did it on my finish mower. Works real good. You gotta make sure that A: the new front casters will clear all brackets, lift arms, the front of the mower, etc., and B: the upper link is adjusted to let the mower follow ground contour. Sometimes I can take the top link right off, and replace it for transport.

I was on the verge of trying this before I got my finish mower. Other than leaving a ridge of grass when it is a little damp, my bush hog did an acceptable job of mowing if kept sharp. Several of the different finish mower models have some pretty inovative adjustable front caster wheels and floating three point hitches. I think you could make it work very well.

I totally thought of that. I was all geared up to do it too, but in the end it turned out to be a heck of a lot easier to rig up a set of limiter chains. That is, chains that go from the top link to the bottom front of the brush hog to keep it from scalping. I have heard that the Zane Thang works wonders too. I have never tried it, but have heard of nothing but good stuff about it. ----Rob
