I have tried, with no success, to remove the rear tires from my 8N rims. The tires must be replaced and I need to sandblast and paint the rims. What is the best way to remove the tires? Can they be cut off?

Rick,
Never done it myself but this web site makes it look simple. Just need lots of elbow grease and the right tools.
Good luck

Rick..... ....take your tires into a real heavyduty tire shop like truckers use and pay them, they've got the experience and the HD eqmt to do it and will NOT charge you very much. Infact will be "free" if you buy new innertubes, $25 cheap (grin)..... .....Dell

Like George, I have used a Sawzall to remove the tires from the rims. The beads on my tires are rusted (seem welded) to the rim. I'm actually thinking about taking my rear tires to the shop to be removed, but I may attempt it with the Sawzall, wedge, and sledge. FWIT

Rick,

Two weeks ago I took my rear wheels to a shop to have the tires removed so I could do the rims and save the tires. I was not able to break the beads myself.

I wanted to take the rims to a sandblaster so I also sawed the tires from another pair of rims so I could take them all at the same time. I cut both sidewalls all the way around on both sides with a sawz-all. The remaining beads were easy to get off.

I intend to mount the old tires on the refurbished rims using new tubes after rinsing any remaining calcium residue.
