Hello everyone;

looking for a small trailer for picking up wood, rocks, general barn cleaning, brush, overall general purpose kind of trailer. Would appreciate any recommendations about what to look for?? Is the size of tires important, should it tilt to dump? How do you hook one to an 8N?????

thks

I have a 5x8 utility trailer that was designed for on-road use (has lights) behind a car/truck/van. It has low sides and I made 3' sides for it. I use this both on road behind the van for moving lawn tractors, home improvment supplies and hay (I don't own a pickup, yet). Max 1000# and it has 15" tires, tilt bed, and gate/ramp as a tailgate. I also use it behind the 8N for firewood, moving hay, leaves, gardening, etc. It was a bit pricy at $600 new, but it has been more than worth it for all the on and off road use. I use a fixed/swinging drawbar with 1 7/8" ball. Since I had the trialer before the 8N, the trailer has hauled home every implement I have. It is as valuable and useful as the 8N itself.

YOU MUST BE FROM MARS! YOU HAVE HAY AND FIREWOOD,IMPLEMENTS TO MOVE AND DON'T OWN A PICKUP! Doesn't matter if it costs $500 or $50,000 you need a pickup. Even more than that 8N. Trade that van in,at least for a S-10 or Dakota or something,if not a full size.

Just find a old small manure spreader for say, $20-$50 that is too rusty to spread manure(moving parts are rusted solid) but perfect for hauling around the farm,but not on the road unless connected to the tractor. Most have big tires. To hook it up drop a pin in the drawbar. Just take the rear beaters(chains,roller bed, is optional) off and WALA!

I built this one 13 years ago, I use it all the time, here it is pictured being towed by my 8N which I use at my recreational property, for the same uses as you describe. I got 15 inch tires on it, and have it hitched to a drawbar on my 3 point. I have used it for hauling rocks, picking up rocks ( by lifting my point and rolling huge rocks on to the trailer) After hauling to desired dump location, just open end gate and lift 3 point , most times never having to handle manually. I suggest looking for one in the local classifed papers or building one. Good luck Stan

I have a trailer made from the bed of an old pickup truck. Mine is made from a short bed pickup, and it's just about the perfect size. Works great. I can load it up with firewood to overflowing and the N pulls it just fine, as long as the traction is good coming up the hill out of my woods... otherwise have to haul 1/2 or 2/3 loads.

You should be able to find one of these fairly cheap, I got mine free (actually it came with the house when we bought it), but I have seen them for sale, usually with price tags of around $150 or so.
