9N Wheel Alignment

I was making a turn while shredding when the back of the shredder dug into a gopher mound and drove me close to a fence post. The outside of the wheel caught the edge of the post pretty hard (actually really hard). Now wheels are way out of alignment. Not sure, but I really don't see any apparent changes to drive links or any bent parts. However, when the right wheel is facing straight, the left wheel is almost pegged out to the left. Does naybody have any suggestions where to start to look - and is it possible that I may have done something in the sterring box? It still steers without a problem. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

Russell. Gary makes a good point. I had the same problem several years ago. Turn the steering wheel very hard to either the right or left and on the 9N it will disengage the gears. Then get off the tractor and turn your front wheel so that it is straight or where it should be. Then turn the steering wheel in the opposit direction that you first turned it and it will engage the gears. It's been some time and I think I remember the sequence. Good luck. Ron

Thanks to Gary, Jim, and UP Mich. I tried turning to the left, but did not have any luck with realigning. I didn't seem like the sectors disengaged. Of coarse, I've never been one to do things the easy way, I ended up taking off the hood and removing the five bolts to the upper steering gear housing. The steering wheel/dash assembly lifted very easily. By lifting about an inch or two, it disengaged the pinion gear from the sectors and I was then able to turn the right wheel back into position and drop the housing back down. Everything is working fine again. While you guys are here, when messing around with the front end, I noticed the drag link ends at the sector arms are fairly worn, but when trying to remove the nut, the whole bushing was turning. How are these removed? Also, tried to remove drag link at the spindle - I was able to remove the nut, but was unsure of how to remove the end of the drag end from the spindle. I took a rubber mallet to it, but did not see movement. Should these just knock out? Thanks again for all the help. Now I'm curious about the adjustment you guys described - it makes me want to go out again and check it out - or maybe not.

I had this happen to me once..... ..My problem was in the steering box...due to wear...
To correct(quick fix)it I was able to remove the drag links (not sure this is the proper term for them)... from the steering sector arms on each side of the tractor and turned the steering wheel all the way to one side which allowed the teeth of the gear (whichever side was at fault)to disengage....then I re-engaged it at the proper time..... ..of course...the proper correction was to tear it apart later and replace the worn parts....

I don't know if this makes any sense, unless you have seen one of the steering boxes taken apart.
The steering box has 3 gears...the pinion gear that is at the bottom of the steering wheel shaft and then there is a right and a left steering sector arm.....

Maybe someone here has a picture of a steering sector arm that they can email you..... ..or they can explain a little better how it works.....

When I have a little more time, I'll see if I can find a picture somewhere...if no one else can help.

You might have damaged the steering gear but I'd check the keyway and draglink bolt on top of the spindle on that wheel first.
