I have recently aquired my first 8n and I am
loving it. Engine seems good, one rear axle seal is leaking oil, will fix asap. The hydraulic lift is very weak, however while grading the drive today I noticed if I pull the lever past the normal stopping point, it would lift like it should. Does that my hydraulics our ok and mabey just needs ajusting or am I doing damage going past the normal stop? TIA

Loosen the four bolts that hold the Touch Control lever assembly and it will move forward and backward for adjustment. That may be all that is wrong. Or the Touch Control Lever slipped somehow.
No damage done. But they had the end open for that reason or it would be bolted closed.

I think the "normal stop" you are talking about is the little deal with the wing nut and it is adjustable. It can be set at any point on the quadrant you desire. If your lift is all the way up when your control handle is all the way up then you are ok. If you don't have one yet get the FO-4 service manual, available from sponsors of this forum and most other tractor supply places. Good info in it.

Mine does not have the wing nut you discribe, I guess it has been removed. I can move the control out of the quadrant towards the rear of the tractor and that is when it lifts like it should.

This is what the quadrant looks like. I have not put the little stop back on yet, but it fits in the slot in the outer bar. third party image It sounds like the lift is already out of whack and the lift cover needs to come off to fix it. I don't think you can do any more damage than is already done.
