I've cut hay and raked with mine for 4 years now, and for 2 of those I've baled as well. There are really 2 important issues to understand: weight of the baler and live PTO. The 8N will pull any "small" baler (older New Hollands, Massey Ferguson #3-10 are all ok). But even small balers weigh about as much as the tractor, which makes it exciting if you have many hills...you have to be *very* careful or you may not be able to stop going down hill, sort of like a big sled (ask me how I know). A baler with its own engine is a good way to go, as it doesn't take any power off the PTO, but it is not necessary. Live PTO makes baling lots easier with a PTO baler, but isn't essential either. The 8N doesn't have it. But if you start the baler going before you get to the windrow and keep the windrows fairly small you won't have a problem. Takes a little while to get the "knack" and a little longer to bale, but you can definately do it. So if you are like me and just putting up a few tons of hay and don't need high production, the 8N works just fine. If you want to bale lots, then buy a bigger tractor with live PTO. good luck, Tom
