Have just torn down the rear axles on my 51-n. Is it possible that there are no inner oil seals? I plan on putting them in during rebuild. Neither of my axles have an inner. The bearings and outer seals are all trash, but doesn't appear to be any damage anywhere. THe brakes on the right side look like a freight train ran them over. MAybe thats why they left me on the hood when i tried to use them in a panic stop. Thanks Pj

Well guess I should have checked the archives better the 1st time. My axle housings won't accept the inner seal.

The FO-4 manual is unclear on this, but I always assumed that the axles were different on the newer Ns to allow for the inner seal, but I don't know that for sure. Could it be that you have a 51 engine in a early N tractor and the axles where only made for the outer seal? Probably not, just thinkin' out loud. A call to you friendly axle seller would give you a good answer. Steve 8N 169302
