Been pondering that choke plate and reading frustration in the archives.
The choke plate is stamped "Top" on one side at what looks like the 12 o'clock position. That seems to lead to confusion because when the choke plate is properly assembled and you hold the linkage to close the choke and you are able to read that stamp..."Top" is at the bottom! 6 o'clock actually. So it seems as if the plate is upside down.
It seems the stamp "Top" means only that that side of the plate is on top when the linkage is relaxed or the choke is open (that is the position the shaft is in when you assemble the plate to the shaft). You insert the plate with the stamp "Top" on top. That's it! Or as one 8N poster in the archives pleaded..."WHAT IS THE SECRET WITH PUTTING THIS CHOKE PLATE IN?"
The secret is to ignore the stamp "Top" after you have it assembled properly.
