Last weekend I posted an electrical problem I have with my 9N. Initially I suspected a defective generator, which I pulled off and had a "pro" look at. Found an internal wire broken. Repaired and reinstalled on the tractor. Still no go, but did determine the battery would not hold a charge. Replaced that. After a few moments of running the tractor, was still showing a discharge. Shut down and back to doing some research. Forwhatever reason, went back and found the generator was very hot to the touch. I immediately disconnected the battery.

Thanks to help on this board, I learned more about the Cut-Off Relay. Ordered a new one, installed, and did the "polarization" bit. Still no indication of a charge. Next step was to put a multimeter on the generator whereupon I had had nothing. Pulled the generator off, pulled the end cover off and found everything is pretty well freid, as in one burnt black mess.

Guess the next step will be to see if it can be rebuilt. If cost prohibitive, I may just consider upgrading the entire system. Again, thanks for all the help from the board. If anyone has suggestions, please post. More important than anything, I see this as a challenge that I'd like to correct, rather than take it to someone else.

You should be able to buy a rebuilt generator at most auto parts stores like NAPA for instance. They will require that you turn in your old one for a core charge.
