O.K. guys, I need your help.
It's time to take the stock ag tires off of my newly-acquired 9N.
It will be used mostly for mowing, and I need something a little easier on the turf.
What is the largest (widest) front tire I can put on my tractor if I switch to 8N front hubs and rims?
I know about the standard 6.00x16s, but will a 7.50x16 also work?
Thanks for your input!

Ohio9N: I have an 8N with turf tires. On front, I have Titan 6.50x16 in a five rib implement tread. They clear the top of the spindles by just a 1/4". I don't believe you should use anything bigger. They also provide the right height to the front when using oversize (12.4x28) Titan R3 turfs in the rear. The tractor sits very level! I am very pleased with this set-up!

If you want some big r-3
s on the rear, try the 16.9 x 24 like I have on my naa... no real footprint except in sand.

Thanks to all respondents.
I knew I could count on the members of this forum for ideas and answers.
I've decided to go with 600-16s just to keep things easy.

My 9N tractor has some sort of car wheels on it. It also has a setup for a front hydraulic pump, so I suspect someone had a loader on it at one time.

I went to check the tire width for you, because the clearance on this setup is just adequate, making it about as big as you can go, at least with these wheels.

One tire is 8.5 x 15 (yes, that's a 15 inch wheel).

The other tire is an old unmarked recap. Imagine my surprise when I noticed that it is two inches taller than the 8.5 x 15 tire. It appears to be about the same width -- just a taller profile. Wonder why it took me so long to notice I had a tractor with a "limp"? Both tires just nicely clear the spindles -- the tall tire is a little close. But this might give you and idea how wide you could go if you wanted to.

I suppose you could make up some custom wheels with a shallow back spacing, stick the tires way out there, and make your tractor look like one of those weird looking Hondas the gang bangers seem to favor. But maybe you'd rather not...

Ohio9N, Why switch to 8n hubs? Why not put a set of 9n 16 inch wheels on your tractor. Original after market ones are hard to find, but you can make a set real easy with a pair of used 16 inch rims or even some new 16 inch blanks. All you need is the centers out of a pair of 19 inch rims and a welder. Just make sure you have spindle clearance before you weld your centers in solid. Now as far as 750x16's. I have a 9n with 750x 16 straight tread tires on and it just doesn't look right. John

JohnIA,
Thanks for your response.
I have considered something along the lines of what you suggest, but I don't own (or have access to) a welder.
I do, however, have a set of 6.00x16 8N rims and front-end parts available, and thought that that might be the easiest way to go.
(Just looking for the largest practical tire footprint without clearance problems.)
By the way, what is it about the 7.50x16s which doesn't look right.

What part of Ohio? I have 15" tires on my 9N and would happily trade wheels for a sound set of 4.oo x 19s. I'm at Fremont.

George,
I live in the Johnstown area (about 25 miles NE of Columbus.)
I would gladly trade for your rim/tire combination if I had an extra set of 4.00x19s.
However, I plan to keep my originals for that time when I can retire my tractor and just use her for show.
By the way, you have one fine looking machine.
Hopefully my 9N will look as good someday.
