Last night, I went out to mow along the edge of the driveway (1/3 mi.) with the 2N and belly mower. While doing the usual checks (oil-gas-antifreeze) I happened to look down just as a drip fell from the cotter pin below the clutch housing. About 20 secs. later, another fell. I checked the oil and it was down a little, but not too bad, so I topped it off and mowed (hour and a half). When I got done, the oil, heated up by this time, was dripping regularly (a drop every coupla seconds). Oh well, guess it's time for crank seals! Is there a one-piece for the rear? I have the front seal number (NAPA #550199), but don't recall if there's one for the rear. Anyone know? Thanks, as always.

Ron

Ron, Im certainly no expert but that could allso be the front seal in your transmission leaking. HTH Jim

You are correct. Ninety percent of the time it's the seal on the transmission mainshaft. Cheap part and easy (after you split the thing apart).

Thanks guys!

I'll check into it--I didn't smell the oil to see if it was transaxel fluid. Pays to be thorough!

Ron, If it is the tranny seal, be prepared also to R & R your clutch/pressure plate assemble. The shaft end of the internal tranny housing unfortunately ends right at the clutch/P.plate.
This means at least a clutch disk replacement due to the tranny fluid dripping down on it.
I am more inclined to think it is an engine rear main seal leak, because you have not complained of a sticky or mis-operating clutch.

Jim,

My clutch has been questionable for some time. It's not sticky, but I have no adjustment left on the rod. When I get in there, I'll do the pressure plate, pad and T.O. bearing along with the seal(s).
