I am rebuilding the rear end on my 8n and am wondering how much wear is acceptable on the Retainer 8N4124B. I have a small amount of wear on the outside inner face. Thanks in advance.

As long as the inside (bearing side) of the retainer isn't damaged, and it doesn't interfere with the cork seal, the wear on the outside of the retainer shouldn't be a problem. When the hub gets loose on the axle, it can rub up against the retainer causing the wear. I recently rebuilt mine (including new axle and hub) and thought the retainer might be bad because of the wear. I paid $35 for a used one (I don't think you can get new ones any more) and it was in worse shape than the one I had. I ended up using the old one and have not had any problems.
