I recently loaned out my 1954 NAA and it came back with a broken ring and pinion. I have a complete rear from a late 8N and would like to swap in the parts. Will this work? Everything externally looks to be the same. Thanks Roger

Roger, Before you forget about using that 8N ring and pinion I suggest you tear the old one out and see if it will fit. My parts book shows same from 1939-1953 and my understanding is '53 and '54 are the same.
My parts book shows ring gear = #4210 and pinion = #4609 used in both. Maybe Dell has a more up to date book than I but I would sure check it out for fit. What are you out, and hour tear down time.

Ray..... ....while you have the basic part numbers correct, its the prefix and suffix, to the basic part number that tells what it fits. Its the Ford way. (grin)
The NAA pinion is NAA-4609-C, eff 53 NAA.
The N's pinion is 79-4609, eff 39-52, 9N, 2N, 8N. The NAA ring gear is NAA-4210-A, eff 53 NAA.
The N's ring gear is 79-4210-A, eff 39-52, 9N, 2N, 8N. HTH..... ..respectfully, Dell

Yer right, Dell. The book shows differnt rosebud dimensions for the NAA, which would call for a matching ring gear, hence the differnt numbers, even though the picture caption shows the same assembly numbers.
