Hello,

I'm planning to purchase a pressure washer to clean my greasy and cruddy engine. I'm also planning to use the washer to clean the engine on my 57 chevy that's in the same shape, and also my siding, padio, etc.. in the future.

What pressure should do the job? I've been looking at a 3.5 HP @ 2000 PSI, is this enough Kick?

3.5 hp with 2000 psi is good enough for what you want to do without causing seal damage, etc. Use a spray on oven cleaner (I use oven brite), let it set for 30 -45 minutes and spray away. I got my sprayer at Sams.

Is 2000 PSI enough to keep my driveway, siding, and walkway clean also?

You'll probably be happier if you go on and get a 3000-3200 PSI machine. I had a small one for several years and was pretty happy with it but I replaced it with a bigger machine and couldn't believe the difference. It puts out alot more water(GPM) which helps alot when washing sidewalks, patios and etc. Also the extra pressure really makes a difference when it comes to cutting thru old grease, paint and decades old funk. Jobs that used to take the better part of a day are just about cut in half. Get a good quality one because, as another poster noted, some of the low end pumps will not last long even when used casually. I also highly recommend the Honda engine.

I have a Biltwell Brand washer I've had for 20 years. It is a 10.25hp engine and puts out 5,500PSI of pressure through the fan nozzle tip. I don't even dare to try the jet stream tip. It will blow a hole through my cblock and push too much water in through the seals.

I've got a Generac 2700 lb pressure washer with 6.5 Horses. It is awesome. It is great for making my deck look brand new and it cleans siding real well also.

The Degreasing detergent that you buy (At Lowes in my case) Isn't worth a flip. You are better off just buying a couple of cans of GUNK and then pressure washing...That's just my experience though....

Make sure you fill out your warranty card on the machine....pressure sprayer pumps have a high mortality rate...

Another thing to look for is a detergent / bleach pickup tube... It is handy to be able to add a little degreaser to your mix.. like purple stuff / simple green..

I have a 6 hp Coleman 2000 psi power washer that does a fair job at cleaning for most household uses .

Spend the extra and get a good one that is 3,000psi+ and at least 4 gal a min spray. The smaller one do not work near as good. Try to get at least 11 hp if you can you won't regret it. You can allways turn the presure down if needed. Mark H.

I have a five horse and about 2000 PSI and it does a fair job but it won't do much with baked on grease and dirt. Need a steam cleaner for that so it can melt the crud. Loose grease and oil it does good on.
