I have read lots of advice on limiter chains for a bush hog on an 8n. Down loaded a great picture showing the set up. What is the reason/benefit of making a triangle using the top link. My 51 8n has metal hooks bolted to the top bolts on each side of the rear housing. I put a link from a chain in each hook and the other end goes on the lift arm with a bracket. It seems to work ok. A'm I hurting anything???

Pat..... ....with "limiter chains" you physically and consistantly control the mowers height above the ground (it can't go any lower) but you can collapse the chain by raising the hydraulics to go over an obstical, rock, tree trunk ...etc... and will consistantly return to the pre-limited chain length set height without you constantly turning around and checking the mower height. Works for any tractor/mower, even modern mowers with all the bells and whistles like live hydraulics and live PTO. Allows the driver/operator to concentrate on advoiding obsticles. It is also kinder to old hydraulic systems..... .....Dell

Subject chains: Went to a TSC store here in Hanover, Pa. gOT THE MANU. NAME OF SOME beautifully woven chain. Told them that i WOULD test the tensile strength by pulling a friend's 4 wheel drive Suburban out of my driveway utilizing the 9N. Well, long story shortly, the friend moved the vehicle voluntarily before I had to keep my word with the TSC. salesman.

Well, the vehicle was placed in the driveway as a favor while we were inb Pensacola for the winter. The SUV was for sale. Well, when I returned home I noticed that the fuel tank waqs leakihng deseal fuel.

Even though there were offers refused, it turns out that the EPA credentials have caused a divorce amoungst friends, again.

So, moral to the story, Put a time limit on things like letting a friend set their vehicles on your property "for sale". After all the chip[monks can really do a job of eating all the wiring connected to the electronics. Sorta like airplanes that are tied down for too long.

Just got internet service here, at CAMP GETTYSBURG. Later. John

You shouldn't need limiter chains on an 8N tractor as the hydraulics can hold at the prescibed height - unlike the 9N and 2Ns.

If you can't hold the implement height, then you need to examine the performance of your hydraulic pump, or check on your implement's adjustments.

If you actually have a 9N (instead of an 8N) I'd suggest Zane's Website.
