Will my 8N handle a 7 ft finishing mower?

Or should I stick to a 6 footer?
Does side or rear discharge make a difference in power requirements?

I've a 6-foot King Kutter on a 2N. I think it would handle a 7-footer in normal mowing conditions. The problem is that there's a BIG jump in price to go to a 7-footer. In the KK line, the 6-foot is available in two versions -- a single belt and a double belt. The double belt costs about 40% more than the single belt. The 7-foot is only available in the double belt version so as you can imagine, the price of that extra foot is quite a bit more.

Given that the single belt 6-foot mower will slip if you let the grass grow a little longer than normal, I suspect a single belt 7-foot mower would be nearly unusable.

I agree with the other guys...the 6 foot is a good size for the 8N because it is just a few inches wider on each side than the tires.

This means you can mow your yard just like a riding mower using your front tires to line you up from row to row....works great!!!

I think a 7" might be a tad clumsey as well...

I use a 6 ft. King Cutter finishing mower. I seldom have problems with power. Tall grass along with too much speed, however, will cause belt slippage. The resulting reduced blade speed will cause the unit to plug up. I normally mow in 2nd gear, using first gear in the tall stuff. Even then I will occasionally get plugging. The solution then is to cut a narrower swath until out of the tall stuff. I am glad I didn't get the 7 footer, unless I got the double belt option, which was pretty expensive if I remember right.

Just my experience.

John, I pull a Woods RD7200 6' rear discharge finish mower behind my 8N. I cut every other week the area away from our house. I doubt if an N could pull a 7' mower. Maybe if you cut every 5 days. I have never heard of anyone pulling a 7' mower with an N either. Philip.
