My 8N has been running rough since I got it. I've been through the hydrolics, clutch etc. Now I want to get it running better. I've read previous posts on leaking intake manifolds. Mine starts fine with the choke. She idles rough and the idle mixture seems to do nothing. If I pull out the choke a little she smooths out. I've rebuilt the carb and checked the gas flow. The strange thing is if I put her under a load it smooths out. like pulling hard or brush hogging it seems to run fine. How can I tell if it's the manifold short of pulling it apart?

Faziey..... ...I spray WD-40 with long straw around any carb/manifold gasket joints. If manifold is leaking, the oil will temporarily seal any leaks and won't hurt anything. Pullin' the choke enriches the mixture which tend to support your suspicions that you're runnin' lean. Working the engine hard (brushoggin') and good runnin' also tends to support your suspicions of runnin' lean.

Being unable to "adjust" your idle mixture tends to support a clogged idle jet scenero and lean mixture. I'd look inside the carb idle mixture jets for cloggs, maybe even a very fine copper wire probe..... ....Dell
