I posted this over on the tool board but either no one knows or there is no interest so I'll try here. Got a 42cc Poulon Pro with an 18" bar. I've been using it a good bit this spring clearing brush and trimming and such, have run several tanks of gas thru it. Anyway I cut for a while the other day and all was normal that afternoon I started it again and it was smoking blue as if there was to much oil in the mix. Same tank of gas that I was using in the AM. No change in sound, power, or performance. Any ideas, comments ?

I'd check the air filter for blockage. The air filters on most chainsaws aren't very big and since you were using the same fuel mix etc. I'd at least look at it. Just something else that I'd think is a possible. I've had my saws smoke more than normal when they sucked a lot of chips into the filter from sawing position or whatever. Makes 'em harder to start too.
Good Luck, Lee

I agree with fast Ed. I have the same chainsaw, and for no more fuel than it holds, I dump what has been in there more than a week or two. I'm also goofy enought to only use Poulan oil. Trouble is, the saw is 40:1, and my weedeter (homelite) likes 50:1, so guess which one needs a new plug every year
Good Luck

Not sure which model it was but we had one (poulan) several years back that the chain oiling system starting pumpping chain lube into the fuel system. Not sure how that is possible or if the small engine repair guy was pulling or leg or what. The smoke was pretty obvious though. Somehow whatever pump that automatically lubes the bar and chain can also lube the engine when this pump gives problems.

Oil tends to settle to the bottom of gas cans thus you are burning more oil if your gas can is low .Dump that crap out and start with a fresh mix of the proper ratio.

When you started it the second time and it smoked.. how long did you run it? Did it eventually clear up?

If I run my 2cycle weed eater, then let it rest for a bit, then restart it, it mosquitor fogs for a bit then clears up.. figur eit might be some iol/fuel collecting int he carb / cylinder after shutdown... as with yours.. the engine sounds good and has power during the smoking.. but does go away.
