I'm getting ready to reassemble the rear-end of my 8N. A friend of mine is an aircraft engine machanic and has given me a container of anti-seize compound called "Mastinox." It is a bright-yellow, grease-like compound that he says will allow no seizure - ever. Should I use the stuff to coat the trumpet to center housing studs or should I be using something to lock the studs, like loctite?

Hi rick, If I were u I'd get a big plastic bag and some really thick plastic gloves and throw the mastinox out.

That stuff is very dangerous, don't touch it lick it or inhale it. It's illegal for us to use it nowadays, even in aircraft maintenance it's banned.

check out more aircraft related info at my website:

I'd say no to both questions. If ya got it apart in the first place ya probably don't need anti-sieze and I don't think loctite is necessary. My opinion and you know what they say about opinions.
Good Luck, Lee

Get and read an MSDS sheet on MASTINOX before you get it all over you. I understand it *IS* good stuff. But I think it is "fair to poisonous"... learn about it then make use of it when you know about it. duey

My husband works in the aircraft industry and was exposed to Mastinox , he had a yellow greasy substance on his hands, didnt really know what it was, wased his hands then ate his sandwhich later, which left a nasty taste in his mouth, he reported this to his sup. and was sent home to soak his hand in warm soapy water. I saw where you said it was poisonous. If you have any info on this would you please e-mail me.

Thank You , concerned wife.

Mastinox contains hexavalent chromium. Go to this page to find out more of the hazards:

It is still in use in aviation maintenance, the effects of the product are known, but not by the people using it because they don't read the MSDS. This isn't good stuff.

we still use this product in Aerospace and it is very toxic, I would do as previously mentioned, dispose of it properly!!!
