The old Ford cars back in the 50s used to have the breather tube vented down to around the bottom of the oil pan, if we saw one smoking we would say , she is getting ready to go . Go in for a set of new piston rings .( among other things ).

You bring back memories....Road Draft Ventilation. Later, because of EPA requirements cars would utilize the PCV system of sucking it in to the carb..

Is it pressure? Blow by is pressure. Maybe you are venting steam if there is a lot of moisture in the oil. Outside chance actually but hey!...hope for the best. Replace the oil filler tube cap. At least get a good element in there. It's important, it keeps a proper pressure so you don't get an air and moisture exchange. Changing the oil cap on mine cleared up a crankcase moisture issue for me. Run the tractor till she is good and warm/hot and has boiled all the moisture out of the oil. Or change the oil.
Hope for the best. HTH

The oil filler tube is also the ventilation for the crankcase. Inside the engine there is normally only 1 place that produces smoke-the combustion chamber. Most likely the rings are worn or sticking causing the gasses to be pushed into the crankcase and out the breather tube.

As Claus said, check your compression and let us know the readings (both wet and dry). If the rings are just sticky you might be able to use some Marvel Mystery Oil to help free them up. If they are simply worn then depending on the compression you will be able to get an idea of how worn they are.

Yeah, and an old lady only plowed with it after churh on sundays. We call it "Blowby" these are combustible gases that get by poor ring seals to the cylinders....Take a compression check....
