Up until now our farm equipment has consisted of an 8N, 9N, Farmall H, Allis WD, and a Farmall A. Not exactly power on parade, but we always got the job done. As of yesterday that era has come to an end, just as it did when Grandad sold the horses. My niece, and her husband, who are starting to take over the farm, went and purchased a ford 4000, Live this and live that, remotes here and power steering,,,, so as they finally drag this farm into the 20th century, I prolly should shed a tear, but I'll tell you I'm so happy that I could just squat!!!! Dang I'm seeing some retirement parties coming up for some equipment real soon!!

Glad to hear that you're enthused about your niece and her husband taking an interest in the family farm. Not many family farms left these days. I hope it works out well for all of you. I can appreciate the excitement over the new..er tractor. I've been using 8Ns and 9Ns for almost 20 years now and this year I got a '53 Jubilee. Woohooo !!! Live hydraulics and an overhead valve engine with 30 sumthin' horsepower. Hot dang !!! I'm a mowin' fool this year. I guess I always was a fool but I mow a lot faster now and like it.

hmm, im no history expert, but wernt all the other tractors that ya have from the 20th century anyhow, i dont think they made any tractors in the 19th century, the 1800s. and a ford 4000 isnt that new anyhow, it just looks modern cause its got the squared off hood and stuff. or is it one of the older 4 cylinder 4000s? if they are gona keep the farm and do it profitably then that 4000 will be a big help

zactly what I meant, here it is the 21st and we finally got into the 20th. I'm really happy that someone is taking an intrest in the farm, it's been in the family forever, and I can't think of anyone better to take over the reigns from her Dad, than my niece and her husband.

They should do fine if they can stay out of debt. Glad the farm can stay in the family another generation. Farm can pay off a lot of ways but you gotta stay on top of the debt bigtime.

Now Ron,

I assume that the 4000 is a 3 cyclinder model, which means that it is no newer than 1975. That's 25+ years old - not exactly new. :-)

Seriously, I have a 3 cylinder '67 Ford 3000 which I like a lot. The 4000 is a bigger brother to it. I think your niece's husband will like the 4000. It is a good big tractor and will do a lot of hard work I would not try to do with the older N's, and the others.

Regards,
Larry

Time does march on. The older equipment will always have a place though, and that is a tribute to the designers and engineers of that time.

I suppose you wonder how they will make it with the cost of things..... like Grandad wondered how the first tractors would get paid for and earn their keep. Time does march on... and change is inevitable. A couple good things.. 1st: That you can BE here to see it happen and 2nd: You can share some encouragement for the new operators.

A new role for you... thanks for posting... duey
