...then you can say, "...and its got a Sherman over/under", or "...its got a Sherman low range...", or... you get it don't you. Can't be truthfully said if you don't have one.

I have one and rarely use it (after I found out it could be shifted to standard range - thanks board members, had been using mostly low range for years).

Keep learning,

John A

It depends on what kind of Sherman. If it's an overdrive Sherman you need it so you can go 5 miles down the highway to your other field that needs plowed without taking all day to get there and blocking traffic thereby being a hazard. If it's an underdrive Sherman you may need it to plow that hard pan packed old dirt where you're intending to plant a garden. Without the underdrive your tractor will move too fast and the plow will come out of the ground with the draft control. If it's the over/under Sherman you need it for both types of the above. I have a Sherman overdrive on my 8N and almost never use it. I actually need it about as much as you thought you did. Most of us don't really need one unless we need to go exceptionally slow or exceptionally fast for some reason.

That's what I was thinking. For hogging, snow, and maintaining the lane that Sherman is pretty much extra weight. Road gear is a little more fun though.

Road gear with a Sherman step up and fluid filled tires is an "experience".

Try Sherman in step-up, loaded tires, 6 tons of grain behind and a 14 year old at the wheel, going down hill! Whe-e-e-e-e-e!
