Question, Does the bottom of the dust cover (rubber boot) on the shifting stick go inside the cover plate and if so how in the world do you get it in without out tearing a hole in the boot. I pulled the plate but the shifting stick is riveted to the cover.

Ya.. putting that boot on is a job for people with only 2 hands...

I've tried a couple different methods, but only had luck with the following ( heat up the boot first in hot water as Dell suggests).. makes it MUCH more pliable than it was.

First was to slide the boot down the stick, then roll the lip back on itself about 1/2 inch. Find some stiff wire.. like #10 brace wire for fences.. make 2 u shaped pieces with turned up lips on the end, roll the rubber boot down over the megal tong ens ( 4 ends ) and use that as extra help to manipulate the boot down into its seat. There may be some folding, but once seated, you can get it straight... just takes a bit of bad language and ya have to hold your mouth right..

good luck
