I tore apart my Vickers vane type hyd. pump and found a broken rotor, a sheared off shaft, and a worn cam ring. I found rebuild kit w/rotor, ring, and vanes(very costly!). Does anyone know where to find a shaft? I'm told they are no longer being made.

I fixed a vane pump last week that only needed the seal and that was not too expensive. While I was worrying about the pump though I did come up with an idea to eliminate the need to fix the old pump being it vane or piston pump.

I have been marketing a live hydraulics set up for the N tractors with the Ferguson system for a while now with good results and a lot of satisfied customers. That made me get to thinking that the same pump set up that I use on the N hydraulics for the live hydraulics could be adapted to use on the later model tractors when the original pumps die. It would require adapting hose connections to the existing hydraulic manifolds by tapping the holes in the manifold for pipe threads which would be fairly easy to do and would not cause the manifold to be made unusable if you ever wanted to go back to the original pump. There would have to be a plate fashioned to cover the opening where the gear drives the origianl pump and maybe a brace to help hold the NAA hydraulic manifold secure so it would not shake. Then all you would need to do would be to install my gear type hydraulic pump that is belt driven and you would be back in business for a lot less money than a new original pump or ever a rebuilt original pump. I am working now on a version to install on my 55' 660 for experimental purposes.

What do you guys think?????

Probably would cost about $250 to get the stuff to do it with from me. That's not an exact price though as I am still working on the set up.

Sounds great. The vane pump on my old 650 will need replacing or overhauling before too many years.

Neat idea Zane., A question.

What about having a new pump that was driven of fthe same method as the older ones? Ir is there a breakage / parts availability problem still associted with this.

Second question. Are/could your 'live thang' kits be setup to run a remote? ( In other words.. what are the gmp / pressure specs.. or ballpark guess? )

Thanks,

soundguy

Cost would be prohibative to try to manufacture a pump that would be driven from the same place as the original is. It could be done but there would have to be a whole casting designed for the pump and that machined and the pump installed in it and with my set up you just bolt it on and do a little plumbing to the existing lines and you are on your way. One advantage to my set up would be that you could tap into the pressure line to use as many remote valves as you might want to. You could even use a powersteering with the same pump. Would have to have it so that the steering was the first thing to come off the pump to assure constant steering. The lifting would have to wait it's turn after the steering.

The pump can be of several volumes. I use a low volume on the N live hydraulic set up so as not to overpower the three point system. It is the same volume as the Harry Ferguson belly pump (original)

Hi Zane,

I just want to say that I admire you for your engineering ability and entrepreneurship. I don’t have a need for a Zane-thang or a live-thang, but if I did I would certainly consider purchasing your products.

My late dad used to tell me that I would always be successful if I could solve a problem or fix something for others. You seem to be problem solver and fixer of things.

Best Regards,

Rick H. Ga.
