Trailer Hitch Ball on a Straight Blade

This morning I wanted to move my bass boat from winter storage in the barn to the garage (getting ready for a trip - big walleye are biting). The tractors were right there, but I didn't want to change implements and put a drawbar on, and I don't like to pull a trailer with a ball on the tractor's front bumper (too squirrely pushing up a long driveway with the turnin' wheels in the middle).

Then I realized that the King Kutter straight blade I've been pushing snow around with will take a trailer hitch ball just fine. I screwed a spare ball on the blade, picked up the boat trailer, and drove off with it. I can't turn my blade around without removing the ball, of course - but I thought this was pretty slick for a temporary deal.

Here is my idea on the hitch. It is mounted low so the blade will swing all the way around, and keeps a low center of gravity on the tractor. This is a photo of "Rusty" before the FORD script was painted, and before the lights were installed.

One quick mention about safety. If you lift your back blade, you might flip if you pull away to fast or try to corner at any speed. I realize that the back blade should keep the rears on the ground, but keeping your pull point low wouldn't hurt.

Just an idea!

Sam: Your shed looks like mine with boats and tractors. But your idea won't work in Iowa. Water is too stiff! And where did you say those walleyes are biting? Truman? Table Rock? Mike-Iowa

Bull Shoals Lake, on 5 1/2" Rattlin' Rogue jerkbaits. I know some guys who hit 'em hard yesterday, including a couple of 8+ pounders.

Water is semi-stiff here, mostly frozen in the coves. BTW, have you ever used your fishing boat as an icebreaker and heard the sound like little bells when the big sheets of ice slide across each other? That's the purtiest sound! Sorry for the off-topic post, guys. I'll be good now. - Sam

I have a utility trailer that is about the size of a pickup truck box. I made a long hitch that sticks out like a short boom pole.....makes my trailer a poor man's dump trailer. Lifting the three point hitch tilts the trailer pretty good....makes unloading wood andstuff real easy. Just kick it off. you do have to load the front of the trailer and keep it front heavy, or she come's up.

Take Care
Steve

I have been doing this for years. I leave the ball on the other end (where there are only three holes. Turns real quick when backing. Watch how heavy a load that you carry, Where the ball is mounted will bend, been there, done that.

Sam, walleye fishing is bad for your health (unless I can go too)
