Can anyone tell me what the Vickers Model No. of the 5/8" vane type hydraulic pump from my '54NAA.(I know it starts w/V110). Would also like to know part no.s of the shaft, rotor, and vanes. I know the cam ring no. is 143121(it is stamped right on it-can't find others). Any help would be appreciated. Thank You.

Vane type pumps are a pain. The friction between the case and the vanes makes them fail often. The reason they use them is that when the engine is starting, it is turning too slow to extend the vanes resulting in a no load startup. When the pump gets over about 400 RPM, centrifugal force extends the vanes and the pump begins to put load on the engine.

A piston pump will cost big bux and require that the swashplate angle be zero on startup. Otherwise the pump will put a huge load on the starter. The cheapest solution would be to use a gear pump and an unloader valve. Gear pumps are cheap and reliable. The unloader valve could be wired up to the starting circuit to bypass flow until the key is released. Another way is to servo the unloader valve on the oil pressure of the engine, that way, it wont kick in until the engine is running. Solenoid operated shuttle valves are about $50 and a 20 GPM gear pump is about $200 depending on the brand. Check out www.surpluscenter.com

Hope this helps.

Joe

Ron;
Don't know the part #'s but I had my vane pump rebuilt 4 times by the same hydraulic shop and they finally gave me my pump and returned my money and said "sorry but we don't want to screw with it anymore".
Bought a piston pump and I think paid $650 for pump and new lines to fit.
Don't know why they could not get it right.
