Start my 9n the hydralics want to come up with the lever in the down position.Go around back while it is running ,can push down on the arms, no pressure. Push the clutch in the arms go down. Pull the lever up the arms still go up but no pressure, I can push them down. Open the plug to where you add oil I can see the pump spinning [I think} just churning the oil away. Oil is milky, have no idea what weight but looks very heavy cold [90 weight].Tractor has been in cold barn. Hydralics work OK last summer but have not been used in a while. Can anyone give me some advice on this and what weight oil to use if I solve the problem?? How hard is it to pull the hydralics and rebuilt if I have to and where are they located?? Thanks Roy

Look at post above about finally fixing the hydraulics on my 2N. It took me awhile but I got her fixed up. Good luck.

Roy;

I had a similar problem. What I found was the fork that controls the inlet/exhaust valve on the pump had come off. The arms would go up with the control down. My weight would drive the arms down with the level up. I took off both inspection plates and (naturally, it was cold out) from behind, I reached down and put the fork back where it belonged. I had the cover off to replace the piston with a NAA. Apparently didn't have it quite right when I put it back together.

If this isn't it, dropping the pump and rebuilding is like changing a water pump on an old car. not much to it, once you get to it. But you have to pull the PTO shaft, drain the oil, remove three or four hundred bolts and that's it.

Good luck.

Roy:

Sounds like you may have water in Hyd. Oil. If you can, get the tractor in warm place over night, so any ice can melt. Drain Hyd. Oil, (Three drain plugs) remove the small plug, (near the rear axle) first. then the other two big ones. Ford/N/H dealer get number 134. Takes five gallons..... .Good Luck

I agree. Especially since the oil was milky colored. FYI - I used #134 hyd. oil in my 2n and it did not work as well as 80-90 wt. However, if you are in a cold climate, maybe #134 is best. If after you change oil things aren't looking any better, check the archives of this Board and take a look a Zane's diagnostic procedure for hyd. problems. It will be helpful before you start tearing things apart. My $.02
