Dell, you were half-right. I knew the rotor turned counter-clockwise, but I was timing it as though it turned clockwise. Too much midnite oil burning.I got back to work on it this morning and I think I found whats wrong. The problem is that the point cam doesn't line up properly with the rotor shaft. I tore the distributor apart and discovered that the plate in the bottom of the distributor should have two slots in it for the centrifugal advance weight pins. The slots were worn almost 0.100". The other problem is the pins. They have slots worn into them over half-way into the pin where the were wearing into slots. Between the slots and the pins being worn, it lets the points cam rotate a long way farther than it should. The springs on the advance weights keep the cam rotated. I think the reason it worked before I tore the engine down and didn't afterwards is because I cleaned about a ton of hardened grease out of the bottom of the distributor. This freed up the point cam and weights. They were stuck. I didn't make the connection until I tore the distributor completely apart just now. Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous post. I'll let you know when it runs. -AL
