The crank pulley was loose on the crank so I removed it. It had turned at least 90 degrees. Doesn't look as if anything is damaged and it should go right back in when I line it up with the key.
Any thoughts on what if anything (beside replacing) I should do to the oil seal before I reinstall this mating surface? It's already oil soaked I suppose. Grease it up real good? What?
Thanks.

Hi Rob,

I have heard that the N rope seals are tough and durable. I agree with Dell, I would just put the pully back on and tighten it good.

When I restored my 49 8N a few years ago my crank pully had a grove wore in it by the old rope seal. I welded it up and had a machine shop turn it smooth. My 8N engine seals do not leak a bit. Rick H. Ga.

Rob..... ....UNLESS you have a MAJOR oil leak, in which case you'd have to drop your engine oil pan to replace the oil seals. Just slip your crankshaft pulley onto the moon key and tighten your crownbolt to 150 ft/lbs..... .....Dell
