Rebuilt carburetor several months ago and tractor worked fine. Several days ago it started to loose power and shut off unless I pulled the choke out 1/3 while it was running. With choke pulled out (1/3) tractor runs fine. I took carb. off and recleaned it and have same results. Checked time and points, they are fine. Can anyone shead some light on my problem? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Ray..... ...Guess what pulling your choke knob does? it enriches your carb mixture. Guess why your carb mixture is lean? Clogged jets? good guess. The M/S carb is a simple carb but needs clean gas to keep from cloggin' jets. The choke "py-passes" your mixture jets.

Howsomevers, weak sparkies also bennefitt from enriched mixture by pullin' choke. And if'n ya gotts a frontmount 9N/2N/8N engine, thats where I'd start lookin' if'n yer comfortable that your carb jets are cleaned out. Unfortunately, frontmount ignition coils arn't as robust as we'd lik'em to be..... ..... respectfully, Dell

I would guess that one of the gas filters is plugged. Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the carb and see that you are getting a steady stream of gas. If not, then work yourself backward from the carb. and find the stopped-up filter. If you are getting a steady stream of gas from the plug hole, then put the plug back in and spray some ez start into the choke throat and try to start again. If it starts, then you have a carb. problem. If it doesn't start, then you probably have a spark problem.
