Oil in clutch

I just opened my 2N up to replace the ring gear and bendix because there were two places
on each side of the ring gear that had smashed teeth. However, when I got it open there
is oil everywhere and it looks like trans-hydraulic fluid is coming from near the throw out
bearing and not oil from the engine. The tractor has a two speed adapter ahead of the normal transmission. My
questions are: 1. Is there a seal somewhere in that high-low transmission near the input
shaft and how difficult is this seal to replace? Do things pop out all over when it is taken
apart? 2. Do I need to replace the clutch disk because of the oil on it? It hasn’t been
slipping and looks to be in good shape, but some oil on it. What should I do before I close it back up?

I had an oily clutch disc and someone suggested cleaning it with brake cleaner. I replaced it and never tried the brake cleaner.

Rich..... ...what Joel sez..... .and..... ..
Sherman aux tranny uses same front tranny seal as the N-Tranny ($3 cheap). If you choose to replace your oiled clutch disc (I would, $50 peace of mind, and a new throwout bearing), use your 4-bolt removed aux tranny front shaft as a clutch alignment tool before you bolt your flywheel pressure plate down after you replace your flywheel ringgear ($20 cheap)

Are you saying that if I romove the throwout bearing and take out the four bolts holding the housing to the Sherman aux tranny, that the input shaft will come out and I can replace the seal with no suprises!!!

I would tip the tractor back a tad to keep tranny fluid from coming out. You'll need to replace that gasket at the input shaft housing/aux tranny interface. Don't tip it too far .

I would replace the disc while you're there, they're cheap enough. The seal in your aux. trans "should" be the same as the one that normally is in the front of the trans. Easy to replace. There aren't any surprises that await you when removing any of these parts. All straight forward... 4 bolts if you want to remove the aux. trans and I think 4 if you just want to remove the input shaft.
