First of all, thanks to everyone who helped me. Sometimes I end up running around in circles when I have a problem and it helps to have friends knock me up the side of the head.

The reason the engine didn't have any suction at the carb was because I had left a lockwasher on a intake manifold stud. Put the gasket over the lockwasher, put the manifold on top of that and tightened it down. That sandwiched the lockwasher between the block and the manifold. I did it late at night, but there's still no excuse. Put a new gasket on today (minus lockwasher), timed it (THAT was hard) and she purrs like a kitten. It was really, really hard to turn it off. I was afraid I had dreamed it. So I started it again. No leaks, nothing burning, so I guess it's going to be OK.

Thanks again,

AL

Congratulations!!!!!

Isn't it funny how finding the problem is nine times out of ten the hardest part of the problem.

Man, bet you feel great now!! You earned it...

Well Al I think you have a lock on the dumb-butt-of-the-week for that one.
Boy, I hate it when I do stuff like that. Glad nothing was broken or otherwise fouled up as a result.
Pesky lockwashers and such....

for the Trees!

I've done similar things time and time again. When I was working in the conputer center I would sometimes get "wrapped around the axle" trying to trouble shoot a hardware malfunction. The best thing I found to get my "head up out of the sand" was to find someone (usually my boss - the only other EE in the center) to let me tell them what I was doing and what I had found. That process of trying to explain what I was doing to someone that had no previous experence with the problem made me think more carefully. That usually was enough for me to see "the error of my ways" and find the problem.

Glad you found the problem.

Regards,
Larry 8N75381

Al.....I too have noticed that. Sometime when I am having trouble with something. When I explain in detail what I have done, the solution jumps out at me..... ..E. Ray

Great to hear that it was something simple. 'Course, I never would have guessed that one!
